Prelekcja o historii Suchiej Góry i dziedzictwie przemysłowym Bytomia

Residents of Bytom are invited to attend a fascinating lecture on the mining heritage of Sucha Góra, scheduled for 13 February at Hotel przy Skarpie. Historian Tomasz Sanecki will share insights into the area’s past as a significant site for the extraction of silver, dolomite, zinc, and lead. Attendees will also learn about the unique natural features of the area, including the UNESCO-listed reserve, „Segiet”. Admission to this informative event is free.

The upcoming lecture is part of a broader series titled „Industrial Heritage of Bytom – Mines and Mining Plants”, aimed at highlighting the rich history of mining in the region. Sanecki’s presentation will delve into the notable history of the „Verona” mine, once one of the largest zinc mines in the world during the early 19th century, as well as the oldest dolomite mine in Silesia, called „Blachówka”. The historian is also expected to discuss the „Segiet” mine, located within the current boundaries of the Segiet reserve.

Beyond the mining aspect, the lecture will also promote the ecological significance of Sucha Góra, which is home to three valuable natural areas: the Suchogórski Labirynt Skalny, the Ecological Utility „Verona”, and the rezerwat „Segiet”. Through this event, residents will gain a deeper appreciation for the historical and environmental value of their surroundings. Furthermore, free leaflets detailing the history of zinc and lead mining at „Veronagrube” and dolomite extraction at „Blachówka” will be available during the lecture.
